The first meeting of the Preston Activists Group occurred on the 10th of October at the aptly named Beautiful Planet Cafe.
Topics mentioned included: land rights, anti-oppression, financial inequality, austerity measures, corporate crime, youth issues and imprisonment, hunt saboteurs, the 'money free party', bio-diverse community farming, group transport for direct action, and disability, social and community work.
It was broadly agreed that anti-oppression, anti-capitalism and fighting for full social and economic equality fundamentally draw our campaigns and interests together, and that we would like to use the group to network and build support and solidarity.
A monthly meet is provisionally set for the second Thursday of every month, 7pm, at the Beautiful Planet Cafe.
Next meeting: 14th November
A few people suggested setting a brief agenda for next meeting:
- agreeing the general 'aims and principles' of the group
- events and news updates
- press - e.g. printing a news-sheet
- connecting / co-ordinating across Lancs and the North West
- a featured topic or speaker*
*Is anyone happy to speak about a particular project/topic at the next meeting? It would be good to have a different featured topic planned at each event. Perhaps the Hunt Sabs could get this going first?
