Information about Y & H

Yorkshire Community Activists Network (YCAN) was launched at Scarborough in December 2010 and held its first Conference at the St George Centre, Leeds in Early March. The organisation is in its infancy, having been formed from the Regional Community Empowerment Panel, which was funded by the Empowerment Partnership. The Panel had upwards of 25 members most of whom are signed up to YCAN. We have a steering committee, have adopted a working constitution and are looking to hold our first AGM in December

Hi all

Up to 100 community development and renewal advisers wanted

I wanted to flag up a tender opportunity that some of you in Yorks and Humber may be interested in.

We (Renaisi) are about to start recruiting up to 100 Community Development and Renewal Advisers for the Big Local programme (see www.localtrust.org.uk for more details) which is a National Lottery Funded 10 year programme in 150 areas.

Known as ‘Big Local reps’ these advisers will guide and coach 150 communities across England including in Yorks and Humber to make their areas even better places to live.  The areas have been awarded £1m each as part of Big Local, which gives people locally a key role in deciding how to improve their areas and create lasting change. Each area receives at least £1m to spend over 10 years – along with support, training and networking opportunities.

We now need a pool of reps to help us provide this support. Big Local reps will need to have excellent facilitation skills and be able to use their limited time effectively. This role would particularly suit those working on a freelance basis or those who have capacity to manage it alongside other employment responsibilities.

Please note this is an invitation to tender.  Renaisi is recruiting and managing Big Local reps on behalf of Local Trust www.localtrust.org.uk the organisation that has been set up to deliver Big Local.   Reps will be contracted to Renaisi on a national framework contract.

For further information and details on how to apply please click here for more information or review the documents hyperlink-ed below.

YCAN is holding a networking event and its AGM on 12th October in Leeds.

Mary Clear from Incredible Edible - one of the most imaginative and dynamic community run projects in the country - will be speaking, and there will be plenty of time for proper sharing of ideas and experiences.

Hello to activists in Yorkshire and Humber!

I would like to draw your attention to an exciting conference taking place on 23rd September in Bradford. It is called 'Challenging Society' and will be a place for discussion and debate. Thought provoking speakers and fascinating workshops. The afternoon session organised by YCAN will be a 'Community Challenge. There is an early bird discount for booking before 25th August and unwaged activists can apply for a bursary.
