The Lure of Greatness: England’s Brexit and America's Trump - Anthony Barnett

The final word of this excellent book was penned 8 April 2017, soon after our strong and stable prime minister proved her grasp on reality by calling a general election, thereby leaving present government existence beholding to the 10 members of the DUP.For anyone trying to comprehend the whys and wherefores of Trump & Bexit, this highly recommended book, also available digitally, need reading in full.Below are a few selected quotes below.See better known peoples' opinions…See More

Gaian Democracies: Redefining Globalisation and People-Power - Roy Madron, John Jopling, and Samir Rihani

Gaian Democracies: Redefining Globalisation and People-Power (Schumacher Briefings) by Roy Madron, John Jopling, and Samir RihaniIn the midst of the prosperity and affluence of Western ‘democracies’ there is a pervasive sadness and sense of impotence about the future of our societies, of humanity and of the natural world.Like millions of people, we have come to the conclusion that today’s globalisation is fundamentally unjust and unsustainable. Like them we want to make a useful contribution to…See More

China’s rise, America’s fall - David Malone

Will the rise of China mean the fall of America? In a word, yes. Although decline might be more accurate. Why do I think this? Because China is about to launch the PetroYuan and when it does so the demand for dollars and for dollar denominated debt will shrink. When it does I question whether the world will be so sanguine about the level of debt that America carries. If that happens then the value of the dollar is in question. At the moment no matter what level of debt America carries, other…See More

Tory disdain for democracy reduces Parliament to a talking shop - Jeff Goulding

Older heads than mine may be able to remember a more shambolic and inept government than that of Theresa May. I can’t. However, if that were the only problem, we’d have seen the back of them by now.Their naked cruelty and obvious disdain for the majority in society marks them out as a clear and present danger to the well-being and…See More

Jeremy Corbyn – a mainstream [Scandinavian] social democrat - Jonas Fossli Gjersø

As a Scandinavian who has spent more than a decade living in Britain, nothing has made me feel more foreign than observing the current Labour leadership election. From his style to his policies Mr Corbyn would, in Norway, be an unremarkably mainstream, run-of-the-mill social-democrat. His policy-platform places him squarely in the Norwegian Labour Party from which the last leader is such a widely respected establishment figure that upon resignation he became the current Secretary-General of…See More

The Tories unleash a ‘day of rage’ every day. It’s called austerity - John Wright.

The right wing backlash against the righteous anger and, yes, rage over the mass incineration of human beings inside Grenfell Tower in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea has begun. Demonising those who dare do anything other than wave a few placards and sing hymns in solidarity with the victims and survivors is being characterise as tantamount to calling for revolution by apologists for a status quo of rampant inequality, social and economic injustice, and in light of Grenfell…See More

How do I let people know about the Community Ambassador and Community Development Programmes that are being deliverered for people in Essex-?

I can upload course information sheets if you wish or give links for people to find out more-The courses have been planned in response to local demand and are constantly being adapted to meet local needs.  The programme was successfully delivered in South Essex in 2012-13 and feedback from learners confirms that there were a wide range of benefits to support individuals and local communities (geographical and social)

Hi Joe,

Sorry, team communications. Accessing the site to share information and resources with a group at the University of Central Lancashire involved with the work of Paulo Freire. My area is working with homeless groups to facilitate solidarity through supporting service user groups in challenging stima and inequality and influencing policy.
