help to derail fracking operations in Balcombe, Sussex- by the 16th July!

As you've probably heard in the news at some point, the nightmarish practice of fracking for shale gas is set to happen at Balcombe in Sussex, unless there is a strong backlash of public opinion.

How to hold civilization together

Just an excellent paper authored by two biologists, explaining the challenges facing humanity on ecological, cultural and economic fronts and the intersection of all of these.

May be of particular interest to NATCAN audience, as it makes explicit reference to community led social change and global movements that can raise awareness. It's very striking to hear this kind of talk from physical scientists as opposed to social ones!…

Antibiotics- Big Pharma doth not provide

I just remembered the article in the Independent from a couple of weeks ago about the big increase in drug resistance bacteria.

The Department of Health is due to publish the UK Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy this week.

Let's hope it contains resolutions to move at least some antibiotic research into public development.
