Admitting that it has lost touch with “its customers and members and with the communities in which it operates”, the Co-op is at a crossroads. After the near collapse of its bank, the Co-op is asking anyone and everyone to help determine the organisation’s future direction.

Eric Pickles, the Communities Secretary, is examining plans to free local authorities from a 103-year-old obligation to provide plots of public land for cultivation by gardeners. Companies will be able to buy them from the NHS’s new patient database - everything from mental health conditions, sexually transmitted infections and diseases like cancer, linked to your postcode, gender and ethnicity.
