The return of the Party member? John Rees

The reality of political parties - snips include:

The decline in support for the main parties should not be read as disinterest in politics. The British Social Attitudes survey, by far the most authoritative source of statistics about opinion in the UK, found the following: In 1986 29 percent of people said they were interested in politics either a ‘great deal’ or ‘quite a lot’. In 2012 36 percent of people did…

To us, it's an obscure shift of tax law. To the City, it's the heist of the century - George Monbiot

Snips below from an article you must read:

While Cameron insists that he occupies the centre ground of British politics, that he shares our burdens and feels our pain, he has quietly been plotting with banks and businesses to engineer the greatest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle to the ultra-rich that this country has seen in a century.

These measures will drain not only wealth but also jobs from the UK. The new…

Poem - The Dream Machine

A few days ago, a dear friend of mine wrote this rather political poem which blew my socks off. I hope no-one is offended as her ire is really directed against the religious right who hold such sway in American foreign policy. Any concerns and I will of course take it off. Here it is:

DREAM MACHINE

It’s you and me together babe

We’re riding on the waves

We’re shouting with our loudest voice

It’s true that Jesus Saves.

We’re surfing…

Money Creation Backbench Debate

Hi Natcan,

Positive Money have had a significant breakthrough: Earlier this week we were told that Parliament will hold a three hour debate on the issue of ‘Money Creation and Society’ on Thursday 20th November.

This will be the first time in 170 years that Parliament has debated money creation.

The backbench debate in the Main Chamber of Parliament creates an opportunity for MPs from all parties to learn about the issue, ask questions and deepen their… Continue

London – Power and Powerlessness

Hi All

This blog post from Mark Parker, a bloke on the front line, really says it how it is - worth reading!

This week I have been struck by two recent findings. First was the percentage of MPs who are millionaires – some 78% – held up against the national population percentage of millionaires – 0.7%. True or not, the focus of our national life in Westminster is clearly dominated by the wealthy and financially comfortable. This fact…

The British government is leading a gunpowder plot against democracy - George Monbiot

You really need to see this article in full. Here's a couple of snips:

The Stop TTIP petition now carries more than 750,000 signatures; the 38 Degrees petition has 910,000. Last month there were 450 protest actions across 24 member states. The commission was forced to hold a public consultation about the most controversial aspect, and 150,000 people responded. Never let it be said that people cannot engage with complex…

Spiral Dynamics? or Hippy Shit? Two Book Reviews

SPIRAL DYNAMICS, and A THEORY OF EVERYTHING

After 36 years of trying, there are still things I love about community development – most of all, I still get a huge buzz out of learning together from shared experiences, creating our own understanding from what happens. Call it Reflective practice, or call it Praxis - as Karl Marx declared: "Practice without Theory is blind, Theory without practice is sterile."

It’s like learning how music works – you can learn to play by…
